Man Sentenced for Burglaries and Sexual Assaults
A man has been jailed indeterminately for public protection after admitting burglary, rape and sexual assault charges. Travis Gotting, aged 20, from Donnington Road, Reading, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary, two counts of sexual assault, and one count of rape at Reading Crown Court on 17 November 2011. 1 – Man Robbed at Knife Point Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses after a man was robbed in Reading on Monday night. At about 11.30pm, a 43-year-old man was walking along Northumberland Avenue, when he was approached by three men. One of the men produced a knife and asked for money and a second man pushed him over. Thames Valley Police is appealing for the public’s help to trace a missing woman from Reading. Rebecca Pitt, aged 21, who is a patient at Prospect Park Hospital, was receiving treatment at the Royal Berkshire Hospital when she went missing on Saturday morning (21/1). Exam Results Above Average in Reading
Official figures released by the DfE show that GCSE and A Level results in Reading are yet again significantly better than those nationally. For A Level exams taken in the Summer of 2011, the average point score per student in Reading borough is 878.1, compared with the national figure of 728.2. Cow Lane takes first step to combating bottleneck
Monday morning motorists will be welcoming the reopening of Cow Lane after the first phase of widening work. The thoroughfare has been closed since mid December, when Network Rail started work to remove and replace the southern bridge and lay a new road under the structure. Volkswagen demonstrates the power of its Amarok pick-up by using it to demolish a 67m high steel chimney weighing approximately 140 tonnes and standing at nearly the same height as Westminster Abbey. The chimney would normally have been demolished using a 40 tonne excavator, but after months of careful planning from structural engineers and demolition experts EDS, the Volkswagen Amarok was given the opportunity to be the first pick-up to attempt such a task.
