    A father and son from Berkshire, who have both been diabetic since the age of two, are using a dog to help them manage their condition.     A woman from Reading has learnt to read and write almost 50 years after leaving school illiterate. Sue Chapman was unable to perform everyday tasks from opening a bank account to choosing food in a supermarket, until two years ago.     Thames Valley Police and their partners in Wokingham held a drama competition earlier this week in the Theatre at The Oakwood Centre in Woodley. On Monday 21 November, Year 9 pupils came together to perform their own devised plays, based on the theme of ‘Alcohol and Substance Misuse’. At approximately 2am on Saturday 19th November the victim was walking home after a night out when he was approached by a group of 4-5 youths and one of them demanded his phone.     The future of a residential care home in Berkshire is in doubt because its buildings fall below recommended standards. Wokingham Borough Council has launched a 12-week consultation on Fosters Residential Care Home in Woodley. Stuart Rowbotham, commissioning director, said: “Because of the poor conditions it will require substantial work to bring it to modern standards”.     Sir Douglas Bader’s crash log book sells for £23,500 at auction

    A log book by World War II pilot Sir Douglas Bader which records the crash in which he lost his legs has sold for £23,500 at auction. Bader nearly died in the crash at Woodley Airfield, near Reading, Berkshire, in 1931 but he learned to walk again using artificial legs. The log book, which was sold in Gloucestershire, had been expected to fetch between £20,000 and £30,000. Other Bader-related items were also sold.
