    Monday morning motorists will be welcoming the reopening of Cow Lane after the first phase of widening work. The thoroughfare has been closed since mid December, when Network Rail started work to remove and replace the southern bridge and lay a new road under the structure.     Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision in Caversham which happened earlier today (22/12). The incident happened in Prospect Street, at the junction with Peppard Road and Henley Road, at around 11.55am. A silver Peugeot 406 was involved in a collision with a wall and came to rest against a post.     Reading ‘could get extra bridge’

    A new bridge could be built in Reading as part of the council’s multi-million pound bid to get people using more green forms of transport. Plans for the pedestrian and bicycle crossing over the River Thames is part of the council’s £31.8m proposals. There are three main routes over the Thames in the area, two in Caversham, Reading and one in Sonning, Wokingham.     A woman from Reading has learnt to read and write almost 50 years after leaving school illiterate. Sue Chapman was unable to perform everyday tasks from opening a bank account to choosing food in a supermarket, until two years ago. Mrs Chapman said her illiteracy caused depression and made her a “social misfit” who never left the house.     Thames Valley Police is appealing for the public’s help in tracing a man who has been reported missing from Reading. Jakristo Milewa, aged 46, of Star Road, Caversham, last spoke to a family member on Sunday evening (27/11), but has not been in contact with anyone since and has failed to turn up for work.
