  Olympic Torch on show at Museum of Reading

  Group, schools and businesses are still basking in the glow of the Olympic flame’s visit to Reading. A Reading Museum exhibition is now up to date with the arrival of a 2012 Olympic Torch after Lorna McArdle donated the torch she used two weeks ago. It joins a 1948 Olympic torch, donated by then-runner Nick Nichols, in the exhibition called Bikes, Balls and Biscuitmen: Our Sporting Life, which celebrates Reading’s sporting heritage and runs until November.   4,000 women Race for Life in Prospect Park

  More than 4,000 women and girls whose lives have been touched by cancer joined together to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds at this year’s Race for Life. Prospect Park was a sea of pink as families, friends and colleagues turned out to take part in two 5km walk/runs to support Cancer Research UK on Sunday.   University of Reading investing £50m in 50 new academic posts

  Reading assistant manager Nigel Gibbs signs new deal

  Reading assistant manager Nigel Gibbs has signed a new contract with the Championship club until 2015. Gibbs joined Reading as a youth manager in 2006, reaching his current position of assistant manager in 2009-10.   London 2012: Groups in Reading can apply for Olympic grants

  Community groups in Reading can apply for grants of up to £10,000 to fund work tied to the Olympic and Paralympic Games, it has been announced. The council has £42,000 available this year and £74,000 next year from its culture and sports grants programme. Clubs and organisations offering programmes for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities were likely to be successful, the council said.   Digital switchover starts across Hampshire, Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Wiltshire

  The digital switchover has started for homes in parts of Hampshire, Berkshire, south Oxfordshire, and Wiltshire. People with analogue TVs have lost BBC Two while those with digital equipment will have to re-tune their boxes. Digital UK said all services from the Hannington transmitter have now been restored following some disruption.   Record number of students apply to Reading

  Release Date : 30 January 2012 Almost 20,000 people have applied to come to study at the University of Reading on undergraduate courses in 2012, an increase of 10% on applications for 2011 and well ahead of the national trend.   Northampton Town have signed Reading striker Brett Williams on a month’s loan to replace Saido Berahino. The 24-year-old, who has been on loan at Rotherham this season , comes in as Berahino returns to West Brom following the end of his loan spell.   Brown Bag to open in Woodley

  Residents of Woodley can look forward to the opening of a brand new coffee shop this month. Brown Bag, which first opened in Windsor in 2003, is currently in the process of building work for their new shop in Woodley. The coffee shop also opened in Wokingham in 2005 followed by another branch in the Virgin Active Health Club, also in Wokingham. Brown Bag offers an alternative to mass-produced convenience food by providing excellent quality, fresh food.
