“Chop Suey!” is the first single from System of a Down’s second album Toxicity. The single was released in September 2001 and earned the band its first Grammy nomination. The track reached number 17 in the UK singles chart.
Written by Beck and record producer Carl Stephenson, ‘Loser’ was initially released as Beck’s second single by an independant record label. Following massive airplay, the song’s popularity eventually led to a major label record deal with DGC Records. The song was subsequently released on the 1994 album Mellow Gold. The song peaked at number 15 in the UK singles chart in 1994.
Weird Shapes are back and fully recharged from recording their second single in the leafy suburbs of Oxford. Having just recorded a number of tracks with one of Radioheads producers, the Teesside band are now making record labels sit up and take note. This short video shows their recent trip to the Oxfordshire based ‘Courtyard’ studios. “Islands” is the third single by British Mercury Music Prize-winning band, The xx, to be released from their self-titled debut album. The single was first released in the UK on 26 October 2009 and then again on 8 February 2010. The stylised video at first looks like its stuck in a repeat loop but actually there is much more going on than you realise.
‘Buddy Holly’ was released as the second single from the band’s debut album Weezer (The Blue Album) in 1994. The single was released on what would have been Buddy Holly’s 58th birthday. The lyrics reference the song’s 1950s namesake and actress Mary Tyler Moore. It reached number 11 in the UK Chart. Due to the wonders of editing, in the video the band make a guest appearance in the American series ‘Happy Days’.
‘Bitter Sweet Symphony’ is the lead track on their third album, ‘Urban Hymns’. It is based on music from an Andrew Loog Oldham adaptation of a Rolling Stones song, “The Last Time”. It was released on 16 June 1997 by Hut Recordings as the first single from the album, reaching number two on the UK Singles Chart. In the video Richard Ashcroft walks down the street ignoring everyone and the oncoming traffic.
“Everlong” is the second single released from Foo Fighters’ second album ‘The Colour and the Shape’, released in 1997. Visually the Foo’s mix up chainsaws, cross-dressing and monsters to create yet another unique video.
“Learn to Fly” is the first single from the Foo Fighters’ third album ‘There Is Nothing Left to Lose’. The song is one of the band’s most successful and recognized singles. In the video Dave Grohl plays a multitude of comedy characters, with a special appearance from Jack Black and Kyle Gass.
‘November Rain’ written by lead singer Axl Rose and released as a single in June 1992. It appears on the album Use Your Illusion I. The video won an MTV Video Music Award for Best Cinematography. It features a sweeping orchestral backing and is one of Guns N’ Roses’ longest songs.
‘All The Small things’ was the second single released from the band’s third album Enema of the State. Written by guitarist Tom DeLonge for his girlfriend, the song is one of Blink-182′s most popular songs and is often considered their signature song. Spoofing every music video cliché, Blink 182 takes inspiration from the likes of Ricky Martin, Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears – and then rips them apart in this comedic video.
