DEBENHAMS has announced a major refurbishment at its Luton store, which the company says will bring 50 new jobs to the town. The store will undergo a multi-million pound makeover in the New Year, creating “50 new permanent jobs for local people”. Luton Town have signed striker Tommy Wright on a three-month deal. Wright, 27, was a free agent after spending a short spell at Kidderminster Harriers at the start of this season on non-contract terms. The former Darlington man started at Leicester City and has also had spells with Barnsley, Aberdeen and Grimsby. PLANS by Luton Borough Council to expand Luton Airport could see it growing to “the size of Gatwick”. At a meeting on Wednesday night, the council’s head of regeneration, Colin Chick, said the authority’s long term vision was for 31 million people a year to use the airport. HUNDREDS of hardy runners braved a very chilly morning when they turned out for our first On Your Marks charity run on Sunday. The fantastic turnout confirmed the success of the event, which raised funds for the Luton & Dunstable Hospital’s neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU). So far a brilliant £8,900 has been raised through sponsorship, with still more donations to come in. THE PRACTICE of renting out garden sheds as dwellings is widespread in certain parts of town, The Luton News has discovered. This follows our exclusive front page report last week exposing Luton company Bis Mil Lah, which paid a £25,000 penalty for letting brick-built outhouses with no planning permission.
