    Boaters warned of dangerous river conditions

    The May bank holiday usually marks the beginning of the leisure boat and rowing season on the River Thames.
    However, boaters were warned at the weekend, by the Environment Agency, to stay away from the river due to dangerous currents, high water levels and debris causing navigational hazards in Oxfordshire and Berkshire.

    Wettest April for 100 years

    Figures from the Met Office have shown that this April has been the wettest in the UK for over 100 years, with some areas seeing three times their usual average.
    Some 121.8mm of rain has fallen, beating the previous record of 120.3mm which was set in 2000.
    The figures up to the 29th April show the amount of rain which has fallen is almost double the long term average for April of 69.6mm, in records dating back to 1910.

    Man in court over University Boat Race disruption

    A man who has been accused of halting the University Boat Race by swimming in the River Thames has appeared in court.
    Trenton Oldfield appeared at Feltham Magistrates’ Court charged with causing a public nuisance, and is now due to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on the 28th May.

    Rowers restricted on River Thames for Jubilee

    Rowers on a section of the River Thames will have some restrictions imposed on them by the Port of London Authority in the two months leading to the Queen’s Jubilee.
    A large section of the Thames will effectively be shut for rowers, between Hammersmith Bridge and barn Elms, from April, until after the event in June, to allow moorings to be set up for the 1,000 boats participating in the event.
