    Olympic Flame arrives in UK!

    The Olympic flame is due to arrive in the UK this evening, ready for the start of the London 2012 torch relay.
    London Mayor Boris Johnson, Footballer David Beckham, Princess Anne and Lord Coe, are flying from Athens, Greece with the flame and will arrive at Cornish airbase RNAS Culdrose, for a welcoming ceremony.

    Chocolate Theatre Cafe is number one!!

    The Chocolate Theatre has been voted number one out of 51 restaurants in Henley on Thames, on Trip Advisor, a travel website that assists customers in gathering travel information.
    The Cafe opened last summer at the site of the old Henley Tea Rooms and is co-owned by Vivienne Connery and Master Chocolatier Roy Hastings.
    Situated opposite the River Thames, the Chocolate Theatre Cafe serves over 25 different varieties of hot chocolate and homemade cakes and pastries.

  • 15 years’ imprisonment for Henley Burglars

    15 years’ imprisonment for Henley Burglars

    Three burglars were imprisoned for over 15 years at Oxford Crown Court last Friday, after being convicted of conspiracy to burgle.
    Luke James Haywood aged 26, from Tilehurst, was sentenced to six years imprisonment; Ashley Shepherd aged 24, from Caversham, was sentenced to five years imprisonment; and James Cox aged 22, also from Tilehurst, was sentenced to four and a half years imprisonment.

    Boost for local museums after successful funding bid

    Museums in Oxfordshire will receive more support following a successful bid by the county council’s Museums Service and partners to the Museum Development Fund.
    As part of a national funding initiative the Arts Council England has granted £1.4million to be used to provide professional advice and support to help more than 300 museums across the South East.

    Confiscation orders hit £6 million in Thames Valley

    Thames Valley Police has confiscated more than £6 million from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act in the last financial year.
    The Act gives the police powers to pursue people convicted of criminal offences, so that officers can confiscate the value or benefit of their crimes.
    In the last financial year the Force made 198 successful confiscations through the courts, totalling £6,012,174.84

    Tri a Triathlon this May

    Henley Sprint and Tri a Triathlon are back for a fourth year, at Shiplake College, on Sunday 27th May.
    For the more advanced, the Sprint, consists of a 400 metre swim, a 28 kilometre cycle and a 5 kilometre run. For beginners the Tri a Triathlon consists of a 300 metre swim, a 14.5 kilometre cycle and 3.2 kilometre run.

    Money recovered through fraud investigations

    Benefit Fraud Investigators working for South Oxfordshire District Council have helped to recover just under £374,000 in fraudulent overpayments in the last year.
    The work has also helped to prevent more than £554,000 of potential future fraudulent payments from taking place.
    Between 1st April 2011 and 31st March 2012 action was successfully taken against 112 people across Southern Oxfordshire who were found to have claimed money they were not entitled to. An increase from the previous year when action was taken against [...]

    Mercedes stolen in Burglary

    Thames Valley Police are appealing for witnesses after a property in Deanfield Avenue, Henley was burgled.  The property was burgled sometime between half past three on Friday afternoon and half past nine Saturday morning.
    The offenders gained entry by forcing a rear patio door and carried out an untidy search. House and car keys were taken, and the owners White Mercedes C220 Estate car was stolen.
    The vehicle has since been found in Burghfield Common, Reading.

    New Mayor for Henley

    View TV Henley went to the Town Hall this morning, along with invited guests and members of the public, for the annual Mayor Making Ceremony.
    Councillor Elizabeth Hodgkin, previously the deputy Mayor was elected as Mayor of Henley on Thames, following a majority vote, taking over from previous Mayor Councillor Pamela Phillips.
    Another majority vote in favour saw, retired teacher, Councillor Stefan Gawrysiak elected as deputy Mayor.

    Domestic Abuse Campaign

    A campaign to raise awareness of domestic abuse is being launched by Thames Valley Police today, in partnership with Domestic Abuse Co-ordinators and Crimestoppers.
    The aim of the campaign is to increase awareness and promote early intervention.
    Reports of domestic abuse incidents average around 32,000 a year. Statistics show an increase in reporting around March, June, July and August. It has also been estimated that domestic abuse in the Thames Valley costs the public £200 million a year.

    GBH outside Catherine Wheel

    Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses after a man was injured in Henley in the early hours of Sunday morning.
    An officer on patrol in the town came across a large gathering at the Catherine Wheel at 12.35am, and discovered a 22-year-old man with a cut to his head.
    The victim was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital and discharged a few hours later.

    Last night View TV Henley went to Magoos, in Hart Street, where former contestant from BBC’s The Voice, John James Newman, was performing.
    John James impressed the coaches on the show with his version of Pack Up and Don’t Worry, Be Happy and  joined Team Danny.
    However, he went out in the battle rounds after going up against fellow team member David Julien.

    People in Oxfordshire are being asked to take any scam letters or emails they receive to their local library during May, as part of a new initiative to help put a stop to scammers.

    Thames Valley Police has released an E-fit of a man they would like to speak to in connection with an incident in Henley in which two teenage girls were injured.
    The incident happened in Mill Meadows between 6.30pm and 7pm on Sunday 15th April.
    Two girls, aged 14 and 15, were with friends in the park when a group of men approached them.

    Henley Business School’s Greenlands campus has been chosen as the venue for one of the region’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations.

    Blue have been confirmed to play at this year’s Henley Festival. The boy band will perform on the Saturday night, as well as LuLu and the London Community Gospel Choir.

    Special constables numbers doubled in four years

    The number of special constables in Thames Valley Police has more than doubled in the last four years.
    A recruitment drive has seen the number of special constables increase from 246 in 2008 to 719 in 2012, with another 700 applications waiting to be processed.

    Robust rave response paying off

    Thames Valley Polices’ robust response to illegal music gatherings in rural Thames Valley area is paying off.
    In April, a rave organiser was given an Anti-Social Behaviour Order preventing him from organising raves in the Thames Valley Police area for the next three years. He was ordered to pay £3,000 compensation, a £1,500 fine, £15 surcharge and £80 court costs.
