    100 Faces of Henley

    Local charity, The Face of Henley, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. To raise awareness of the Charity and additional funds for worthy causes, they have teamed up with local photographers, Janet Hanton and Claire Smith, for a special portrait project entitled 100 Faces of Henley.
    To promote the event, some familiar local faces took part in an early shoot– including magician Paul Daniels.

    Henley Commuters in ‘cattle truck’ conditions

    Manuel Cortes, general secretary of the Transport and Salaried Staffs Association, has accused train operators of being ignorant of overcrowding and inflicting what he described as “cattle truck” conditions on their commuters.
    According to the latest figures released by the Department for Transport, the 7.44 am service from Henley-on-Thames to Paddington is the most overcrowded service in London and the South East.

    Grand opening of ‘Laurence’ in Henley

    On Wednesday 4th April we went to new menswear shop Laurence, in Duke Street, following its opening at the weekend.
    Laurence, which sells smart and casual men’s clothing, had held its launch party on the Friday night which was attended by the mayor Pam Phillips and had officially opened on the Saturday.

    Thames Valley Police Cut Station Opening Times

    Thames Valley Police have announced that opening hours at some police stations in Berkshire, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire will be cut to save money.
    Smaller town stations are seeing cuts in both the hours and days they are open, as some are receiving fewer than 25 visits per week.
    Oxford, Milton Keynes and Reading will remain as 24 hour stations, whilst forty other stations will have opening times ranging from 14 hours a day to 4 hours, three days a week.

    Henley Skatepark is Supported

    The Henley Skatepark Initiative want to create a free-to-use sports facility for the Henley community, by upgrading the skatepark in Makins Recreation Ground to a concrete bowl design.
    After months of petitioning the skatepark proposals were presented to the Recreation and Amenities Committee in the Council Chamber at the town hall, on the 27th March, where the committee voted seven to two in favour of the proposal.

    Saturday afternoon parking boost for motorists

    Motorists in South Oxfordshire are set to receive a welcome boost this April, thanks to the introduction of free parking on Saturday afternoons in all district council car parks.
    Starting from this Saturday parking will be free in Henley from 2pm in Southfields car park and 3pm in Kings Road and Greys Road car park.

    Queen to attend Jubilee Party in Henley

    The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are to meet residents from Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Buckinghamshire at a garden party and river pageant to mark her Diamond Jubilee.
    4000 guests will attend the party which will be held on 25th June near Henley, a significant proportion of whom will be selected by a public ballot in May.
    Residents who are successful in the ballot will join representatives of voluntary organisations and charities, together with civic, community and business leaders.

    HIFF To Celebrate Food In Film

    The Henley International Film Festival is taking place this month from the 27th to the 29th April, with the theme of food.
    Visitors will have the opportunity to see independent food cinema, shown in a specially designed Cinema Cube, including Breakfast at Tiffany’s, What’s Eating Gilbert Grape and Fried Green Tomatoes, as well as being able to sample a variety of different food.

    Last night View TV Henley attended the Launch Party for the 2012 Henley Living Advent Calendar at the town hall.
    The  Henley Living advent calendar began in 2011 and runs from the 1st to the 24th  December as a joint venture between the Town Council and The Henley Partnership.

  • Car Park Resurfacing Work In Henley

    Car Park Resurfacing Work In Henley

    Resurfacing work is set to take place in Kings Road car park in Henley starting on Monday 19th March.
    The work, which will last between three and five days, depending on the weather, will see a replacement surface laid and all ground markings relined from the storefront down to the cinema.
    The car park will remain open during the work, however spaces maybe limited at certain times.
