Footage shows off-duty police officer being stabbed in violent carjacking

This is the shocking moment an off-duty police officer was stabbed during an attempted carjacking in Birmingham. The officer can be seen confronting a hooded man before he is chased, cornered and stabbed in the chest. The unnamed victim managed to make his way to a nearby estate agents before being taken to hospital

West Midlands Police said the officer was walking down a road when the suspect demanded his car keys. Witness Sandy Dhanda described how she saw the attacker make a stabbing motion towards the car driver after chasing him. The shop worker said: ‘I heard a car screech, reverse and then come over to the middle of the road. ‘A young guy with a scarf over his face ran over shouting “give me the car key”.

‘All of a sudden I saw a white tissue or something and he was doing a stabbing motion towards him. ‘In the 18 months I’ve been here I have never had a problem – it’s a good area and it was shocking. I’m still shaking now.’ The victim, 25, was treated in hospital for non-life-threatening wounds and has since been discharged

The attack happened shortly after 1.30pm on Wednesday as the off-duty officer was walking down Moreton Avenue, Great Barr, Birmingham. The attacker made off from the scene in a dark blue Ford Fiesta, police said. West Midlands Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.
