    Last chance for local filmmakers

    Aspiring local filmmakers have a chance to see their ideas up on the silver screen as the deadline approaches to apply for the Quad Shorts 2 film commission. The commission will fund up to five pieces of film or moving image by artists and filmmakers from Derby, Derbyshire and the East Midlands. Applications need to be received by Wednesday, November 30.     Derby’s Green Lane and St Peter’s conservation area bid

    A part of Derby could be turned into a conservation area in an attempt to “kick-start” its regeneration. Derby City Council is proposing to bid for £700,000 in lottery grants to repair and restore buildings in and around Green Lane and St Peter’s. Councillor Matthew Holmes said the plans had the support of local residents and businesses and would benefit the whole city.     Derby Christmas light switch-on to happen despite theft

    Derby’s Christmas lights switch-on is to go ahead on time after the council organised replacements for more than £20,000 worth of stolen illuminations. It was feared the event would have to be delayed after thieves used a cherry picker lorry to take the lights and equipment from a depot on 10 November. However Derby City Council said its contractor had successfully found new lights for the 19 November switch-on. No-one has yet been arrested over the theft of the equipment. [...]
