Opening ceremony is second most-watched UK TV broadcast ever

The London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony has gained an official BARB rating of 24.24 million viewers, making it the second most-watched UK TV broadcast in history. Britain’s star-studded event, which peaked with 27m viewers in figures released overnight, was inches away from matching a 1996 episode of Only Fools and Horses. Government intervenes in cyber bullying case

Matthew Kelly’s ‘Benidorm’ episode seen by 6.5 million

Benidorm showed no signs of fatigue on its second outing of 2012 on Friday night, overnight data indicates. Matthew Kelly‘s guest appearance on the hit ITV sitcom was seen by 6.08m (25.8%) in the 9pm hour, and 431k (2.4%) on ITV1 +1, down only 100k on last week’s premiere. Sky has announced a major revamp of the Sky Sports News iPad app to support multi-screen video streams, starting with the launch of the new Sky Sports F1 channel this Friday. Netflix-branded remotes rumoured for UK

Netflix has revealed plans to increase its presence in the UK market. The video streaming firm told Tech Radar that it is planning to introduce its app to more smart TV platforms in the territory, and release branded-remote controls. Toshiba announces glasses-free 3D laptop

Toshiba has announced the Satellite P855 glasses-free 3D laptop. The electronics manufacturer showcased the mid-range computer during its 2012 Partner Summit, reports Tech Radar. Toshiba’s Satellite P855 features a 15.6-inch screen, Intel Series CPU and an Nvidia 630 GT graphics card. The machine also packs Harrman Kardon speakers and is coated in brushed aluminium. Animal Planet becomes Sky’s 60th HD channel

3D lifestyle channel HIGH TV 3D continues to expand across Europe having launched in Sweden on the Canal Digital platform yesterday. Lovefilm is adding top US series from ABC TV on Demand in a deal with Disney UK. The branded subscription video on demand service will provide streamed access to ABC Studios’ library of hit network and cable series.
