Opening ceremony is second most-watched UK TV broadcast ever

The London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony has gained an official BARB rating of 24.24 million viewers, making it the second most-watched UK TV broadcast in history. Britain’s star-studded event, which peaked with 27m viewers in figures released overnight, was inches away from matching a 1996 episode of Only Fools and Horses. MTV announces new Wales-based reality show

MTV has announced a brand new reality series called The Valleys. The show follows nine South Wales youngsters as they relocate from the countryside to Cardiff in a bid to achieve their career ambitions. Celeb Big Brother ‘start date revealed’

Celebrity Big Brother is expected to start back on Wednesday, August 15 on Channel 5. The show will kick-off only two days after the latest civilian run of the reality show ends on Monday, August 13. TiVo Service hits 1m customers

Virgin Media has today announced that 1 million customers now take its TiVo service, under two years after the hybrid set top box launched in the UK. Alongside its latest financial results statement today, the cable operator said that 250,000 homes were installed with TiVo set top boxes in the second quarter of 2012 (April to June). Amazon Opening TV and Movie Center in London

But now Bezos and co have announced that Amazon is turning its back on the US, instead choosing to develop a center in London to spearhead its move into media. The BBC has revealed details of its planned coverage of the London 2012 Olympics using Super Hi-Vision, a new broadcast technology that can deliver TV pictures 16 times the resolution of HD. Lord Alan Sugar has agreed to another two series of The Apprentice. The first images of Stephen Hawking‘s guest appearance on The Big Bang Theory have been released. In the pictures, the 70-year-old theoretical physicist can be seen meeting with Sheldon (Jim Parsons) in what appears to be a library. Tory MP suggests ‘The Voice’ is just a very expensive advert

Conservative MP Philip Davies has hit out at The Voice UK and the BBC, describing the show as “a very expensive advert” for music label Universal. The rights to the Saturday night music series were purchased by the BBC for a large investment, rumoured to be over £20 million.
