Belfast’s Rain Nightclub has licence renewed
A Belfast nightclub which was fined for overcrowding has had its entertainments licence renewed. Belfast City councillors agreed to grant Rain Nightclub on Tomb Street a six-month licence. The decision followed several meetings between the PSNI, council officials and representatives from Coral Inns which runs the popular club where concerns about safety, noise pollution and fly-posting were discussed. Black Box arts venue gets £25,000 cash lifeline
An arts venue facing imminent closure in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter has been thrown a lifeline by Belfast City Council through a £25,000 cash injection. The Black Box in Hill Street opened in 2006 to be a temporary centre for arts events. Over 1,800 events have been staged there and it is 83% self-sufficient through ticket and bar sales. An Irish government minister will be invited for the first time to the Battle of the Somme Centenary commemorations at Belfast City Hall. SDLP councillor Pat McCarthy proposed the move which was discussed at a city council meeting on Wednesday evening. There was no opposition to the motion.
